November | RPO - Design for an
orchestrated community
Looking to profile and promote their community work, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra asked 400 to create concepts for their brochure. The end product needed to be all encompassing, and come across as innovative and fun whilst maintaining the corporate professionalism of the RPO.
A concertina style brochure was developed that catered for style and appeal across the broad audience range. Bringing togetherness and vibrance to the forefront, the theme of involvement was developed by a consortium of silhouettes that interact and blend into each other, in much the same way as an orchestra does. This was revealed through a die cut front in the shape of a violin, whose white exterior was a sharp contrast to the pinks, yellows and oranges that shone through. The roll fold leads the recipient through the brochure as a further development on the involvement theme.
The division of information was important, as it had to be as appealing and attractive as the design. The consistency of the colour palette was maintained, and segmented with varying size typefaces to allow certain pieces of text to stand out more. Overall the concertina portrayed a contemporary take on a classic brand, and allowed its sophistication and reputation to work in tandem with a younger and more excitable audience.
